Saturday in light blue...

I started a green 16 patch last month and with the kids playing and entertaining themselves on Friday morning I pulled all those 2.5 inch strips I have been cutting down from scraps this year and made some for the previous months. I still need to pull medium and make one from that but I don't seem to have ready made strips of medium blues... I did find the bin of blues so I'll pick out of there and make one to be all caught up.

While I was cutting for the 16 patch I did the twinkle star and when I went to put it with the others look what I found! Yup - I had made one back in January when we did medium blue. The one I made today  is next to the green and appears lighter than the top one so maybe they'll all work in the quilt!

I'm hooking up with the RSC Challenge on Saturday morning.  I'll be home with both kids again and we are headed to Orlando to 'Build a Bear'. Emily will be with her girl scout group and I'll be with Aidan making one for him. Daddy has to work for a few hours that day or he would have been dragged with us!

While there, I am dropping off this colorful quilt to be gifted to one of the girls in Emily's troop.

 The day after the Frozen on Ice show, she lost the ability to move for a little bit and a trip to the ER found an inoperable tumor on the base of her neck. The prognosis is not looking good but hopefully this will make her smile while she is in the hospital getting treatments. She was at the last meeting on Monday night and was walking but as she said 'I'm a bit tippy' as she was holding onto things as she walked along. I made this quilt a few years ago with the RSC Challenge and I think it is just the thing for Maddie to make her smile.

While checking my UFO list I decided to pull my snails trail quilt and attempt to make a backing for it. It is next on the list for machine quilting and hopefully will be finished this month. The top is 48x72 with these 12 inch blocks. I am planning to FMQ circles in each of the blocks - wish me luck! I'm shooting for two finishes in my head (my 16 patch from last year) but will be happy with one.

The thunder in the distance put the pool time on hold so it is board game time this afternoon.  Maybe they'll let me have a break and I can take some time to go pull parts to make a backing for this quilt. One can hope!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge Top - Snails Tail

I have to thank Nancy O. from up in Vermont for the inspiration on this one. She submitted a colorful snails tail quilt to the quilt show a few years ago and I knew someday I would make one. This year it was a great time to make a couple blocks each month with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I added another two blocks for an even 24 blocks and now have a nice 4x6 setting for a wonderful quilt top that measures 48x72 inches. A perfect throw size as is. I think this just needs some nice quilting of swirly loops and a scrappy binding to finish it off. I got the pattern here.

Weekend Post....

Wow, second week in a row that I missed a RSC Saturday post.
I did a little sewing on the FNSI - got two more of the peels made into my X and O block for the brown RSC challenge.

I also needed two more blocks for the snails trail blocks I have been working on all year for the RSC challenge. I went with a bright pink and a yellow block.

Earlier in the day on Friday I did get one of my quilts pinned and a backing created for a little Boo wall hanging and that got pinned for quilting too. I guess I did get a bunch done on Friday until the stomach bug hit at about 11PM. Today I am feeling better but plan to take it easy (as easy as you can with a 5 and 4 year old running around the house wanting help with things). The most I will do today is maybe some slow stitching on my apple quilt. I am making some progress... who know's maybe I'll turn another corner today!

Scrappy Saturday in BLACK!!!!!

Finally a month to play with the black scraps. I admit, until a few years ago I never put black into my quilts. Now I've made a few with the black and they really do make the bright colors pop. Once I saw that amazing cat with those gorgeous blue eye's on Angela's blog I could not wait to pull some black and grey out to make some snails trail blocks for my RSC quilt. I decided to do one in greys and blacks and one with fun prints with a very light grey. I think it will add a fun touch with all the other blocks I have been making. Those cats are on the back of Aidan's Monster quilt and the dots have been used for a backing of a graduation quilt for my niece Mindy. I love the memories of quilts you get when you pull through the scraps and remember where you have used them.

I think I need to pull out my Boo wall hanging and try and get that hand quilted this month with a nice black spider and spider web attached. That counts as black..... right?

Last Saturday in Red.......

First off are the two snails trail blocks in red and maroon. Hard to find a light shade so I went with a white print. Here are all the blocks so far.

As for my little apple project this month....... Here she is!

 I was planning a nine patch outer border but I really wanted to get this to a top stage so I pulled this maroon from the closet and finished the top. This measures 36x36. I plan to hand quilt this one - outline quilting on the apples and some apples in the outer border, little leaves in the inner brown. Not sure if I'll do a diagonal in the nine patch or another apple outline there. I guess I'll decide that once I get there.

Finally a teal Saturday.

I found a little bit of teal in the bins and was able to make my two snails trail blocks and a 16 patch block for the month. I have to say, I'll be happy to have a new month and color for next week.
