Slow stitching Sunday....

Are you sick of this project yet? I have my two sections together and added a row of colored flowers this week. I know - there are two greens together but they are staying.

I just prepped a bunch of hexagons Saturday afternoon and drew my lines so I have plenty of hand work today making pretty flowers. I see another row of color on the top and some white flowers on the top and bottom. I'll call the hexagon flower part of this project done at that point. I think a small multi color inner border and then white for a hand stitched cable in a pretty variegated thread...... Then again... who knows what the quilt will decide once I get to that point. They do tend to have a mind of their own.

Saturday in Red.....

I have just started pulling out the red and made the three samplers that have been posted.

Then I just had to make one little part of a new block. I saw the neatest quilt in a header last Saturday. It had four of these blocks set in blue to make a star with pretty red geese in the sashing. I think I'll make a few of these this month.

Happy 4th of July!

I blame Kathy. She posted some great 4th of July quilts yesterday and I loved one credited to RedRooster as the pattern maker. I just came up with my measurements and turned a couple of hours yesterday afternoon into this cute little wall hanging. I finished up the binding last night while watching the first Harry Potter movie. It finished at 13x21 inches and will be hanging on my front door shortly. I used the walking foot and made some squiggles on the white stripes. I also outlined by the white stripes on each side and outlined the white star. This was a fun little wall hanging to make, even if I did have to make another set of stripes for below the star.

Mid Year Recap of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

It is the halfway point of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and Angela is hosting a link party today to show off all the projects we have been working on this year. So far we have worked with blue, pink, teal, purple, green and yellow. This month red was selected as the color so I hope to add some pretty reds to the mix by the end of the month. 

These are my 6 inch RSC Sampler blocks that Angela is so nice to figure out and post instructions for. I think it might need a wee bit more pink but I'll wait and see how it is looking in December.

This year I am making 6 inch finished churn dash blocks in each color. I make 12 per month and use white as the background. I have no clue how these will end up but I should have plenty to play with =). I still have birds in the air blocks from two years ago sitting and waiting to be put together, snails trails from last year that is a top waiting to be quilted..... I seem to like to make blocks but get stalled at the finishing stage. =)

This year I joined the hexie craze.... although I am hand piecing mine instead of doing the standard English paper piecing. I made one that way.... it just seemed easier and faster for me to put these together as hand piecing. I do love my hand work projects as they are so easy to go in the car with me and stitch a little here and there while waiting on the kids. Last year I did applique orange peels and I know I will have something hand work related for next year. I saw an antique quilt in one of my books that uses black as the background with a flower garden quilt ... I am leaning towards that but who knows what I will come up with when I decide to actually start putting this together!

Tiny Tuesday

Happy Canada Day to those above the USA!

This morning I opened the door to the sewing room and decided it really needs some attention and picking up in there. I folded the bunch of yellows and put them away. Put the brights for the spring hexagons into their pile and sorted the red,cream and blue pile for the Tiny Tuesdays on the cutting board. Then I picked two easy ones and cut and made up 'Another Battle' and 'Road to Richmond'. The second one came out a wee bit too small. It might need some extra 'framing' once I start to put these together =).

Now to cut out a  slew of white hexagon shapes so I can draw the lines for hand stitching while I am at swim lessons this morning. Then I plan to play with lots of colorful blocks this afternoon for some photos for a post tomorrow. Angela will have a half way point link up for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I can't wait to see all the pretty quilts in process.

Turtle stitching on Sunday....

I attempted to put these together last Sunday only to discover that my two parts did not go together! I have made nine more of the colored flowers and three are ready to go to connect the two parts. I need to prep more whites to make a row of white for the top portion and then I'll add my six flowers to the side. We'll see where it goes from there.

June Monthly Mayhem wrap up and goals for July.

I had four things on my list of goals this month.

1.) machine quilt and bind the blue double bed size log cabin quilt. Blue parts are outlined and I started the feathers - about 1/4 of the quilt is done. No where near perfect but we all need to start somewhere! 

2.) Complete a 12 inch applique block for the Century quilt. - Completed!

3.) Hand quilt the Little T quilt. No progress because of #4.

4.) Start assembling the spring hexagon flowers into a little quilt. Great progress was made here with lots more flowers made and a bunch of them have been assembled into two sections. Then I realized my two parts will not go together... so I needed to make nine more colors and a bunch more white ones. The colors are done and will get attached tonight so I can make a little more progress on this.

One got done and two made progress. I am calling that a win! We had some unexpected things happen in June and some know things. Grandma landed in the ER and had surgery to remove her gall bladder. She is all better and nearly back to 100%. We did have a dog visiting with us for about 10 days while she was recovering. Then our assistant manager was on vacation for 10 days. She is home but not scheduled to work until Wednesday. Thank goodness they did not happen at the same time! I worked a bit more than normal this month to cover her hours. I hope for more sewing time in July.

Goals for July.

1.) Finish that Log Cabin quilt - quilting and binding. Outline quilting of the blue parts is done. Now to continue on with the feathers in the cream parts and then figure out the borders.

2.) Prep and applique another Century quilt block this month.

3.) Continue assembling the spring flowers little quilt.

4.) Hand quilt the Little T quilt for a change of pace =).

5.) Continue with the RSC challenge in the color selected for July. 12 churn dashes, 13 or so hexagon flowers hand pieced with yellow centers, a 16 patch block of 2.5 inch squares, sampler blocks. I'll have a post on Wednesday of all the blocks I have made so far this year!

6.) Continue Tiny Tuesday blocks from The Civil War Love Letter quilt.

7.) Start step 2 on the Celtic Solstice mystery from last fall. Good thing I printed them all off - the pattern is no longer available on line at Bonnie Hunters website but it will be in a future book.

8.) Get to the beach with the kids at least one day this month. I'd love to do an overnight but will be happy with a day. Booked for an overnight at the beach this month, Yippee!

9.) See some fireworks this year - it has been ages (before kids) since I have gone to see fireworks.
