Winter 2022 UFO Challenge.

The fall challenge only had one finish. Lets hope the Winter quarter is a little more productive. 

Block Collections.

1.) I know I have at least one more cut and in a baggie somewhere to fill that open spot for a 7x6 setting. These are hand pieced.... and might need a little fixing along the way.

 2.) Hexagon flowers on a black background. These are a stack of blocks I hand pieced a few years ago then hand appliqued to the black background a couple years after that!  Not sure if they will become one or two quilts....

3.) Crumb blocks.... might these end up in a quilt? Or the start of some baskets?

4.) Sweet Confetti blocks - I have 96 of these made.... need to be put together and quilted.

***5.) Midget Applique quilt from Sentimental Stitches. I need to add  more flowers and leaves and the vines... and the bottom yellow border. This one is completely hand pieced.

6.) Ella Maria Deacon blocks - make a few more and finish them off into a top. I believe I was making these by hand. Patterns from Sentimental Stitches.

**7.) Purple applique hearts... need to figure out how they want to be set.

**8.)  this quilt that has been an on and off, leader and ender for years. My scrappy irish chain. I believe I had a bucket of 2 inch squares next to my sewing machine for a while and would make sets, and rows and blocks in between sewing other things. I think it wants to get competed.

9.) Midget block collection - I started these in Vermont in 2010! I have a light blue for sashing.

13.) Harmony - hand pieced project started March 2021- one 28 inch block completed - 3 to go.

14.) Lets go fly a kite- because it might have percolated long enough in my head already. - 2 completed into a placemat august 2021.

15.) Cat and mouse is on the frame in process of hand quilting but has been sadly neglected.

16) This one stayed on the list - needs quilting. Vermont Quilt Festival Booth Hop from either 2008 or 2009. I have backing for this and it is 71x71.

17.) Green Tumblers - a hand pieced top. 

18.) Hoarfrost - top is done will it get quilted this year? **Snowflake gray backing

19.) Baby Bear Paw quilt top ** Made back from a class in 1999 I think from Yankee Pride. ** Polka dot backing

22.) Tumbler flag - this did not come out how I imagined.... It might get reinvented after taking parts out. We will see. **Suggestion to make it wider.

24.) Spring Hexagons - not sure if this wants to be bigger or not.... 

25.) FCQG baby quilt challenge. 40x48 have a backing for this. ***Polka dot backing

26.) Triple Irish Chain - green. 80x80 I think. I did find both fabrics extra with it... Might need a green or cream border first or both... Made in the early 2000's.

Found some more to add to the mix! My current RSC2021 blocks.

****27.) Hexagon QAYG- 362 have been stitched. About 12 more to add I think. Progress is being made. The groups of 4 will be working on becoming groups of 8! All by hand.

28.) Garden Path blocks - a few more got added last quarter. missing purple, orange and light green and maybe dark blue.

****29.) RSC 2021 blocks - 2 more blocks in red and maroon to go!

30.) Full Stop Sew along.... 2021 . Re thinking this one - might eliminate some of the white space.

31 - Memory quilt for Olivia. I think I will do a jeans quilt using 6.5 inch squares. Some will be pieced. One stack is about 50 and the other are parts to be pieced. 

I'd like to get the midget applique borders finished this quarter, finish hand quilting on Endless Diamonds and put together the Hexagon QAYG. Hoping to finish piecing the RSC2021 quilt blocks in red and then maybe get that one quilted on the machine? Time will tell but as the mood strikes I tend to go with what I 'feel like' working on at any given time.

Hopefully I get to check off a few as finished this quarter! 

    

Slow Sunday Stitching in 2022.

I started off 2022 with some hand stitching. A little of this....

Turned into this set of twosies that are ready to be turned into sets of 4. These give me a count of 362 QAYG hexagons for the year. I will probably be adding another 12 to finish up the 'extra' hexagons from the various months. 

My trusty companion Peanut making sure my hip stays warm... which is easier than my lap when I am stitching these!

I have also put a few stitches into the Endless Diamond quilt this week as well.

Welcome 2022 and the RSC Challenge.

 Before I start planning for my projects for 2022 with the RSC, lets take a look back and see how 2021 went.

For the blocks I was working on in 2021 I seemed to have missed a month or 4 here and there on some of them. They will be filled in this year as the color comes up I hope! 

Garden Path blocks. I see I need purple, orange, dark blue and maybe bright green? Maybe a black or a brown? We will see what happens.

RSC 2021 blocks since I never came up with a name for them! These need a red and maroon to finish it off. Good thing January appears to be red! 

Hand pieced Hexagon quilt as you go - I have a few more to stitch - 8 prepped and I need to prep 4 more to have 365 hexagons in the piles. Most have been stitched into sets of 4. I'll spend time this year stitching them together in a scrappy way so the colors are distributed around the quilt. This was a fun one but I will not be doing a block a day this year! That stack is a little over 11 inches high, by the way!

Erin's Butterfly blocks. I pieced some of the butterfly wings in 2021. The plan is to hand stitch them to the background and add the body this year. Probably quilt it in 2023. I think I want 9 of them so I'll add 2 more butterfly's. Thinking red and not sure of the other color. Any ideas? blacks maybe?

Full Stop. I have made some changes I think but did not get a new photo.

Flowering snowball - I was cutting out parts each month for a while to create a scrappy kit. I see I need to cut a little bit more and then see what I need to add for this to be a kit ready to stitch. Looks like orange and purple and probably a bunch more of the lights!

Now... 2022! I am trying to keep it simpler as I have oh so many in progress. 

I like the flexibility of having 16 patch blocks on hand so I plan to make a couple each month using 2.5 inch squares. 

I have been eyeing a Jacks Chain quilt for a few years now. I 'think' I will start that this year with the RSC Challenge making some small nine patch blocks using a white on white background and a color. This will be a multi year project.

I will continue and make a Table Scrap Challenge piece each month as well.

My hope is to play with a different Accuquilt Die each month. I seem to have a good handful or two now and I do like single color quilts as well. We will see how this one works out! I'm thinking the apple core for this month?

That is the tentative plans as of today. As always.... life happens and things tend to change! We will see how it goes each week this year and hopefully a few of these are moved along in 2022.

It has been a joy to learn to play with all the colors in the rainbow and not just the ones I really, really like! 

Some kayaking and fishing....

It was a very cloudy start to the morning and it was still pretty foggy when we got to the lake around 10:45. The boys put the boat in that a former co-worker of Greg's has lent us so they could try it out and get a little fishing in. Nothing was biting but they did have a fun couple of hours. 

Emily and I took our Kayaks for a paddle while they were fishing. It was the first time we have used our kayaks down here and we have lived here for 10 years now! We explored the Carney Island Recreation and Conservation area with their very nice boat ramp. It was about 30 minutes away from us in Ocklawaha.

The lake was really big and we didn't paddle too far from the boat ramp - maybe 40 minutes or so and back. We did a bit of drifting and just enjoying the peace and quiet, watching the ducks dive and pop up in different spots and just breath in some nature. The sun never came out until the ride home so it was a beautiful 70ish degrees rather than the mid 80's they had predicted. Perfect weather for a paddle.

I did a bit of power washing outside when I got home. The back steps are cleared of mold and chicken poop. The front sidewalks on each side of the house are done. That leaves the driveway for the next few days to tackle. I was probably out there for a couple of hours so far.

I have fresh strawberries and Emily wanted breakfast for dinner - so the extra biscuits from the sausage and gravy will be used for strawberry shortcake for desert! She came out mentioning she might be getting hungry in the next hour or so ... which means it is time to pull out the sausage and slice it for cooking.

I see some hexagon stitching in my future with a movie.
