Monday October 13

Today's block is called Camp Conditions and went together quickly in the 15 minutes I had this morning before heading to work for a few hours.

Both kids were dropped to school so hopefully they last the whole day. They have tiger scouts (roadside cleanup) and daisy scouts this evening so hopefully they both will be able to go this week. I can't wait for tomorrow when I can snuggle on the couch with some stitching and netflix or a good book while the kids are at school.

Slow stitching Sunday.....

My Civil War block today is called Virginia Military Institute.

I know I did way too much yesterday and I am paying for it today.... but must go into work and do some paperwork and I plan to stay in the back office so I don't spread my germs around. Tonight I plan to curl up with some hand stitching on these brown hexagon flowers.

Head on over to Kathy's Quilts and see what others are slow stitching today.

Second Saturday in brown....

Having sick kids home most of the week means a lot less time in the sewing room. Hopefully everyone is on the mend and we have a pleasant weekend. I plan to drag  take Greg and the kids to a corn maze and pumpkin patch on Saturday morning if everyone is feeling ok. If not, there is always next weekend.

I made a 16 patch in black to join the other colors.

I prepped some hexagons for some brown flowers to add to the mix. I got this one done in the car line on Friday. I will not do any black ones as I plan to surround all the flowers with black next year as each color comes up by month.

I finished off the borders to the Hugs and Kisses Quilt this week. I hand appliquéd all these blocks last year with the RSC Challenge. I had hoped to get this pinned for hand quilting but sick kids nixed that this week. Maybe next week? I had picked up a bunch of wide backing fabrics on sale last month so I just need to cut it to size and cut some batting off the role and then this can be pinned once I have no one in the house.  Hopefully Tuesday!

I have been making one Civil War Diary block each day this month and today's block is called 'Letters or Papers from Home'. Each block will finish at 6 inches and will be made into a sampler quilt.

Head on over to SoScrappy and see what other dark colors are being linked up this weekend.

Fun Friday....

Not! It seems Tuesday was my only day home alone while both kids were at school...... I snuck into the sewing room this morning and made three blocks from my Civil War Love Letters book. That covers me until Monday =). I also cut out a few brown hexagons to work on today in the car line and tonight in front of the tv. Hopefully my bedtime tonight is later than the 9PM from last night.

Today's block is called Greatest Jollification. I saw a four patch in the middle and two quarter  triangles together for the corners and it went together very easily.

Just got back from the Doctor with Aidan. Upper Respiratory Infection with croup as a secondary. He thinks he has a touch of asthma which is triggered with colds to a barking cough and trouble breathing at night. The quick strep was negative but he'll call tomorrow if the 24 hour one comes back different. We dropped off a prescription for a 5 day steroid on the way home and picked up a milk shake at the drive through which he said made his throat feel a lot better. We'll pick up his script after picking up the girl from school. He got a note to keep him out through next Wednesday since it is a week long virus.... but hopefully the fever is gone and off to school he'll go on Monday.
Time to draw some lines on my hexagons so I can stitch in the car line.

Thursday...

Today I snuck away from Aidan and Madagascar 3 to sew this block up quickly. The Civil War Diary Book has chapters on a few men from the Civil War and has a letter sent to them or that they sent home with a corresponding block to go with it. I do believe that is how they 'named' the blocks.

This is called 'Florida has Seceded' and went together quickly along with another two 54-40 or fight blocks from the Celtic Solstice Mystery. I figured I'd make these 24 blocks with the parts I have done and then I'll continue on with step 5. I have eleven of them put together and hope to sneak away back to the sewing room for 10-15 minutes every once in a while and sew up some more. He is snuggly today with a bad sore throat so he stayed home again today. I got a chapter book for him downloaded to my cloud and he is reading that to me while his voice lasts. Time for Chapter 4 of 'Bones and the Big Yellow Mystery'. I think we need to get a more difficult one next time.

Wednesday.....

Well, my daughter has learned to share! She has kindly passed her germs onto me and her brother. He is home with a little fever today and sore throat.

Today's block is called 'Another Prison'.

Step 3 of the Celtic Solstice Mystery is also done. 100 yellow and orange half square triangles in the bucket and 25 pinwheel blocks. Onto step 5... which will use those 100 half square triangles.

This banana bread just came out of the oven. I had three banana's starting to sprout fruit flies so it was time to make them into something. I forgot to stir in the chocolate chips so they just got scattered on top this time. Now I suppose I should finish month end so I can mail it out today.

Snowflake and Tiny Tuesday...

I finally got to sew my snowflake this morning. I chose the third setting from the first snowflake pattern. I was ok until I started adding the side triangles...... once my mind cleared I got them sewn on correctly (after putting them on wrong... twice!).

I plan on making a little runner with this in the middle and two from the second snowflake pattern - one on each side.  Head on over to the snowflake link party and see the other flurries out there.

I got a Tiny Tuesday block done from The Civil War Love Letter book today. This is called Lonesome Place.
