RSC 2014....

I decided to finish at least ONE of my RSC quilt tops so the sampler got some walking foot attention this week and just needs the binding to be sewn down. It feels so good have an almost finish at the end of the year.

I've also made some progress on the Hugs and Kisses RSC hand appliqué project from 2013 - I have hand quilted 9 of the 49 blocks. I decided to add a few more stitches in each block by stitching on the inside of each orange peel (to make sure my appliqué stitches stay put!) - I have 3 more blocks to add those final touches to. This is my first try at using a hoop on a hand quilting project - I decided I don't care for the PCV square or the large oval hoop. The smaller round wooden hoop is feeling comfortable and nicely puts my 9 inch block inside it so I can quilt it. I still have not figured out how to get the cats off the quilt  while I am quilting but we have come up with a compromise so I can continue stitching and Max can be on the quilt at night. =)

I'm linking up Saturday morning with the RSC Challenge and on Sunday with Kathy Quilts for the Slow Stitching Sunday. Head on over and visit the links for some wonderful inspiration.

Your hand quilting looks great Deb! I really like the darker binding for the Rainbow Sampler.

So it seems like a binding on a beautiful and colorful quilt and hand stitching on hugs and kisses is in your weekend plans... great work this week for sure! Kathi

Oh you did a wonderful job on the RSC Sampler--so vibrant! When I used to first hand quilt (eons ago) I didn't like the big hoop either--even if I loosened the top in it a bit. I know a smaller hoop means more moving it about, but I think it is more comfortable for me on my Crazy Nouveau Ladies embroidery...hugs, Julierose

Two wonderful quilts from your scrappy adventures! A great idea to hand stitch inside the peels... it adds another layer of texture!

Huge congratulations! So exciting to see your almost finished quilt. The hand quilting in looking great on hugs and kisses. More quilting is always better than less I think.

I love this RSC Sampler! The more I look at it without sashing the more I like it, mine may look quite similar to yours! :)

Yay on the sampler finish (well, except for the binding, but that won't take long). Nice to see the quilting coming along on the Hugs and Kisses, too.

I quilt with a hoop ... I started with one of those large oval hoops and didn't like it. It was awesome when I could find a smaller squared hoop ... I could reach all the quilting area yet my block would fit inside the hoop nicely.

Are your little ones feeling better? Did you make your flight?

Your sampler quilt turned out great!

Nice scrappy quilt; the first I've seen with out sashings which gives it a more relaxed, nonchalant look. What's the diameter of your quilting hoop? I find my 13" hoop too small because I have to unscrew it so frequently.

Beautiful work. The black binding frames the quilt beautifully. Enjoy the slow stitching.

Such lovely rainbow eye candy! I have found that hand quilting and cats can be quite problematic :) But I'm sure you will work it out - cats and quilts just go together naturally :)

Love the sampler! It's fun seeing the variety of layouts everyone chooses. I use a square PVC hoop but I'm not sure I'm very comfortable with it. I've tried the round wooden one but really didn't care for it. Hmmm, I'm wondering if I'd like a smaller one.

Beautiful sampler - good for you for only having the binding to go!

Both your quilts are looking great. I love the sampler, now that I see so many getting finished I had better get mine done.
