This week I searched in my closet and found some pre-cut 2.5x4.5 blues from a swap back in the 90's to make a table runner. Nope - never got made so..... I decided to split them up into light and medium values and make some blades for a dresden plate! I used the tutorial from about.com here and it was really easy to do. I just need to appliqué it down to a background.... but I have not decided on that part yet so it might wait for a few months with the growing pile. I think I'll have enough white left from the Hunter star quilt I am going to make for a graduation quilt this year but I want to make that first to make sure there will be enough left for 12 - 12.5 inch blocks for the dresden plates. The medium blues plate is done.
I also made a twinkle stars or wonky 25 patch stars in blue. I just love how this came out! I made the light blue one this month too since I had them in that scrap pile from last week.
Head on over to SoScrappy on Saturday morning to see what other blue projects are in the works this year.

Dresdan plate was my very first quilt (made another 3 since), and is still a favourite. Your Twinkle stars are also great. Wonderful way to use up a great variety of bits and bobs.
I have never done a dresden but have always loved that block. Your twinkle stars are wonderful! I got the backing and binding made for my wonky star so hopefully it will get machine quilted soon!
Love those twinkle stars. Dresden plates might have to go on my list for next year, yours looks great.
That was a lovely comment you left on my post. I do love a Dresden plate and l'll be following along to see what you choose for the background. What size are the squares in your 25 patch block? It's a terrific design for a scrappy quilt. I'm so glad I visited your blog. Thanks for the inspiration
Dresden Plate makes such good use of scraps, 16 different ones, for a cheery and colourful block. The twinkle stars look so bright in the blue. Lovely.
I'm making Dresdens this year too. I started them late last year to continue into this year. Don't you just love them? Great use of scraps too.
I love the Dresden Plate!
Love that Dresden Plate. I can't wait to see your rainbow Dresden Plate quilt!

Beautiful dresden!
You can't go wrong with Twinkle Stars. Love 'em!
Loving all your blue fabrics... and your use of the fabrics you found... I don't see any repeats in your projects either! Love you are doing a dresden and making it look easy! lol I have the template and some day that will meet my radar then! You are tempting me though... love your twinkle star too! Have a great weekend... hope it was warmer for your walk today.. or maybe then by tomorrow! Kathi
I keep seeing the twinkle star blocks . . . and they seem like such fun.
Lovely Dresden, too.
Your Twinkie stars sparkle. Love the Dresden plate block.
Beautiful blue prints and blocks.
Both of your projects are lovely! I really like that Twinkle Stars block a lot...hugs, Julierose
Your blocks are beautiful.
I have been quilting for 20 years and have never made a Dresden plate block--maybe it is time!
Those twinkle star blocks are great. Add to my growing list...right there beside the Dresdens!
Hope you have as much fun with your Dresdens as I am. I adore those twinkle stars....is there a tutorial for them?
Love your scrappy little blue blocks!
I love your star blocks, especially the way the star is in a different place each time!
