2024 Table Scrap Challenge.

Joy is hosting the Table Scrap Challenge again and is spicing things up with a theme this year. January is snowflakes....and the RSC color is Green. An interesting combination.

I just happen to have some fabric with snowflakes on a green background. How lucky is that?

I was playing with my tri recs rulers last night to prep the last parts for Harmony... and I decided to use them with this fabric. I made 4... thinking I would make them into a star. Then got thinking and remembered some trees I had seen. Hmmmm.  I had just enough of the green to make the middle tree in reverse colors. A quick grab of the brown from that scrap bucket and a set of 5 trees were soon stitched and placed together. I decided it needed to be a little bigger, so I added a 2.5 strip all around it in white.

I picked up the pile of batting from the floor (shhh. yes, my studio is a mess!) and tossed the little bits and zig zagged these two bits together to made the size I needed.

I did just some outline stitching with my walking foot around the trees and outlined the outer area around the trees. Would you believe, I pulled this fun snowmen with snowflakes out of that mystery box I got for myself for my birthday back in November 2022! How perfect is that? I can use the trees in December for Christmas, then turn it over for the snowmen in January for decoration!

I do love these snowmen!

So, for the challenge I managed to find some snowflakes, green and used some scrappy batting to make this cute little topper. It finishes at 10x25.

ABC Table Scrap Challenge

After sewing together the Christmas Cactus Wreath pattern this fall, I had lots of these extra stitch and flip corners in greens and reds. I used them as leader and enders and made them into HST's. Today, I took some time and stitched them into twosies, foursies and then a cute little topper.

I sewed two cast off edges from another quilt backing into a square and imagine my surprise when I flipped it over after quilting, only to discover I put it wrong side out! Oops. I'm not fixing it!

A few stitches by hand to finish off the binding and here is probably my last finish for 2023.  The table scrap challenge used letters this year along with colors. The color selection was rainbow. Well, I got a couple of colors of the rainbow used. As for the letters, S,H and E. Hmmmm.
The Elves are Sure to like this Homemade little quilt.

It is the perfect size for Chilly the elf, after all!

RSC Table Scrap Challenge

A little late but I did finally play with a set of brown four patches that have been hanging around for way too long getting moved from spot to spot. They are now this little quilt and are happy to be out of the sewing area!

The backing used up some of my red sox fabric. I think I used this to make blanket quilts for the nieces and nephews - gosh back in the late 90's or early 2000's!

A little walking foot quilting and then I hand stitched the binding.

A completed little quilt (slightly under 12 inches square) ready to link up with Joy and the Table Scrap Challenge! The blocks are Kind of happy to be Walked out of the sewing room and into the house as a little quilt. That's the best I can do with K and W!

RSC in red

I got a little time to sew this week and prepped some reds for the split nine patch blocks. I always pull one out of the box as a reference to help with placement of the squares.

I think they turned out pretty good! 8 blocks to add to the mix.

I had some thoughts for the Table Scraps Challenge.... but I made a change from the original plan. I was thinking green and red apples, but it didn't happen.  I had these squares left on the cutting board after making the above blocks..... so in the interest of the challenge, I used them to make this red toned placemat. I had thoughts of adding a red apple to that one lighter block in the middle, but it didn't happen. It got machine quilted and I attached the binding by machine. I still need practice on that, but it is getting a little easier. As for the letters A and G.... Aren't you Glad I had these blocks sitting on my cutting matt to use this month? I was!

I'll link up with the RSC on Saturday and with Joy at the Table Scrap Challenge on Friday.

A busy day....

Well, we had quite the storm blow through last night! I think we had an hour of heavy rain, constant lightning and wind. That big blob of red was nearly through when I snapped this photo of my weather app.

My 'castle' with a moat! the water was in the gully there covering the dip in the driveway and nearly up to the tree which is a way's in on the lawn. We had a good amount of rain - I'd guess 4-5 inches at least but that is just a guess. It was all soaked in by morning. Looks like we are under the same watch for storms again tonight. Lets hope they wait until we are home from Emily's spring concert at school.

I had plans to work on my ABC table scraps challenge today. Alas.... I have spent many hours waiting in various waiting rooms today. I did get a walk with the dog this morning after dropping the boy to school early for his Cambridge testing this morning. Then a quick shower before heading to the eye doctor to pick up my new prescription sunglasses. They just have a slight script for distance and boy, I did not realize how bad the bubbling was on my old pair (maybe 4 or 5 years old!). Across town and through the car wash after adding air to the tire again. A vacuum and clean up of the inside and home... where the tire air light was on again. Sigh. After a quick check on chickens and playing with the dog and petting the cats.... I headed to Meineke to have them check the tire. A nail! Arrgghh. Iffy on patching and since they were new last fall, they recommended going back to where I got them to see about warranty. They were for a patch, but the placement of the nail did not recommend that route so a new tire it was. They got me right in and got it put on. At that point it was well after 1PM, so I got a quick lunch at Panera Bread to go, and headed home to play a little with the animals. I had about an hour at that point, so I started with my idea for the challenge. Y and N are the letters. I did a search last night for quilt blocks starting with those letters. I came up with a Nosegay of Yo-Yo's! I have never made a yo-yo before, so this is my first attempt. I found some fabrics and cut different size circles.

I got them all scrunched up and they looked like this. I pulled a little scrap of green for a stem and pressed each edge in and hand stitched it down. The next thought was a vase of some kind. I pulled a pink scrap and cut this shape out. I need to applique turn it and attach it still. The flowers are just sitting there, not attached yet. I pulled a yellowish 10x10 inch square to place this on. That's as far as I got, before I had to go pick up the boy from school. Progress.
