Attempting to hand quilt last night....

This is what happens when I get the hoop and quilt out. Meet Maxie and you can see Sophie the white cat laying on the end of the recliner.
Mommy put the quilt down for me!

That hoop is in my way Mom!

Fine. I'll make it work but it is not the most comfy pillow!
I timed it and it takes me 1.5 hours or so to do a block! I am probably just slow and there were some breaks for some cereal and reviewing insurance policies on-line (Greg did all the work I just review the two and select the best one after some discussion.). I did have three needles going and that was a big help for not having to turn it so often and disturb the poor cats from their naps. I have nine blocks completed and one block just needs some quilting on the inside of the four peels. 40 blocks to go.....and the borders =).

while it may be nice to chart your progress overall by knowing how long it takes to hand quilt a lovely block... it is also nice to just enjoy the up and down and the time you get to stitch between doing other things... just my thoughts :) I think you are making great progress on this project.. it is a big project too ! Glad your kitties like to get into the action. Have a Wonderful Wednesday Deb! Kathi

My daughter has been trying to talk me into getting a cat, telling me all about how the cat can sit with me while I quilt. I'll have to show her your post today. ;-)

I find it motivating to know how long it will take by figuring out how long it takes to do one block. The quilt I am working on isn't made up of blocks and it is hard to judge.

Too cute! My cat (Moxie) doesn't try to sit on my lap when I'm quilting, but my dogs (Bailey & McKenzie) will come in the sewing room and pester me if they think it's time for me to stop sewing and pay attention to them!

You're making good progress, even with your "helper". I'm going more slowly on my son's quilt. Just sitting down with it regularly, even every other evening, would speed things up a bit. I enjoy it when I actually sit down and get started, I just need to do it already!

Cute kitties! Hand quilting is a very time consuming activity but oh so worth it!

You have two very loyal helpers! Can't imagine quilts without cats. :-)
