Someone stop me!

For some reason I stumbled upon this video - it shows a hexagon quilt as you go template by daisy and grace.

Could someone please tell me I have enough projects in process and I really DON'T need to start this?

Pretty Please?

Isn't this so darn cute though? Sigh.... Maybe RSC 2021?

Yes, I am aware I have a bucket of hexagons from the RSC appliqued onto black background squares that need to get finished off..... but it is so much more fun to start new things! Must resist, must resist..... at least until November when there might be birthday monies.... =)

September OMG - Midget Applique quilt comes out to play

I had to look back on the blog and I started the Midget Applique journey back in January 2015 with the goal of one block a week for 52 weeks. I decided on a 7x7 setting so I made 49 of them instead. Each block finishes at 4.5 inches.  The patterns were purchased from Gay Bomers over at SentimentalStiches. I worked on these while waiting in the car, watching the kids in the pool and at soccer practice, etc all year long. Then I hand stitched it into a top in those same car lines. I had lots of waiting time for the kids to get out of school!

I got it to this point and then was thinking I wanted a nice yellow border. On that border I wanted some sort of applique. Alas..... I was never able to determine what exactly I wanted for that border but it has sat long enough and it wants to get finished into a top sometime this year. What, your quilts don't yap away at you begging to get worked on? No? Really?

I know I want a vine of some sort and now that I have my bias binding maker I can make it.... I have a sneaking suspicion that my original one might be with this quilt top in the drawer. You know, the one bias binding maker I was looking for, for months before I broke down and ordered another one? Nope, it was not there!

Since this top has been completely hand stitched so far... I will continue on when adding the yellow borders. I think I am going to add the borders and then add the applique? I have never done an applique border so I'm not sure which order works better. I'm thinking a graceful green vine with the purple or red flower 3 rows down in the middle with the yellow center as a flower piece to 'hide' the vine edges.  I think the flowers will be made up of all the colors in the quilt. That is the current thinking... but as with anything it could change. So - goal setting for September. Make borders (none of the lengths are long enough so I need to piece all 4 sides!) and hand stitch to the quilt top. Get one side of applique on (vines and some flowers and leaves) and stitched down this month.

We will see how that goal goes when I check in at the end of the month!

Head on over and see what other one monthly goals are being set for September.

September....

I wonder what September has in store for us? I'm hoping for a 'quiet' month with a little less crazy in the world.

I now have 6 of these Endless Diamond blocks hand pieced and one in process. I e-mailed my terrible drawn pattern off to Joy and Leanna and I'm curious to see what they come up with! I have been taking photo's as I am putting my current one together in case a little tutorial is needed.

I have been putting the corner sections together first, then the middle then attaching each corner section. I usually start with the white diamond and add the left or right color, then the opposite and stitch the color section together at the bottom. Then add the white side pieces to the colored part to form the 'corner'. I stitch the center colored diamonds together as twosies, then the twosies together. I found pinning really helps (despite my dislike of pins, they do help!), and pin that corner section to the spot where the two diamonds meet on the drawn line on the fabric - my stitching line. Then I add a pin or two up to the tip of the diamond. The white section will extend past, that gets connected on the second corner attachment. Stitch one side, flip the corner part to the other side of the diamond and pin again. I go through all the seams so there is not a gap at that middle junction.

I'll add the photo's to this post as I finish up the corners and attach them tonight.

Emily attended her virtual FFA meeting last night. It appears we got a cross breed for our chickens and those are not showable......Can you see where I am going with this? We might have to get 4 more.... of a breed that the APA recognizes for her to show in February. They need to be 5 months old at showing time....

I called Tractor Supply this morning to see what they had in stock. They have quite a mix.... and we need a hen not a rooster to meet code restrictions. So..... we will see what their Barred Rock (Plymouth Rock) chicks look like later today after school. Emily and I both like the looks of this one but we will see what is in stock. We know what to check now - we have the rules for the show and the information links on the website. Quite the farm we are creating..... we will see what Greg says when he gets home from work. I mentioned it briefly last night when he got home a little after 9:30 and he just mentioned - we can build another coop and when they are the same size connect them! I swear he is an enabler =)

I walked out with the kids to put the chickens to bed last night and this was my view walking back to the house. Aidan pointed out the rainbow .

This was looking to the right over the fence to the busy road. Gorgeous color.

These are the ladies about 30 minutes before when I went to check on them. Spoiled girls might have been eating a handful of their chicken feed out of my hand.

Edited..... new additions. 2 Barred rock (Plymouth like the photo black and white above) and 2 Americana's (Easter Eggers) that are just born. The Barred Rocks look a few weeks old as they have tail feathers.

Slow Stitching Sunday....

The only thing I have planned today is taking Emily to horses at noon. It looks like a rainy day so hopefully the thunder storms don't happen during her planned riding time. They don't ride if it is too loud and they can't hear the instructor with the rain pelting on the roof.... and the thunder could spook the horses so they don't ride if it is close.

The internet just came online - seems there was a countrywide centurylink outage this morning. The kids were going nuts - seems the internet is used for a lot of stuff! Me.... I told them to read a book... eyerolls! I popped in a DVD - The Great Outdoors. Always a fun one to watch. I love John Candy movies.

I took a few photos yesterday as I was stitching through the hockey game on tv. I usually don't use pins, but I have been with this block and things are going together much better. I guess it does pay to stick a few pins in on the long seams.

I left it here last night.

Completed block this morning.

The next block is prepped and ready to go along with the colored parts for the following block. Sophie is just waiting for her food to be put down and refused to look at me for the photo.

Linking up with the Slow Stitchers at Kathy's Quilts this rainy Sunday morning in Florida. The rocket launch at 10:30 today has been postponed until Tuesday.....the boy was going nuts as he wanted to watch it and the internet was down. Now he didn't miss anything and there is another launch scheduled for 7ish tonight. I hear there is even one in New Zealand today as well. He will be on the NASA or discovery channels today watching and learning.

Sweet Confetti blocks in purple...

I managed to sew 9 blocks together after watching my Lightning win the hockey game to lead the series 3-1! I was hand stitching during the game but was cutting parts for this block during the intermissions.

The result is purple is completed and I am ready for the next color!

Linking up to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Last RSC in purple.....

I had some catching up to do this week.

8 of the Stashbuster blocks set as 4's into a 12 inch block were added to their collection.

The cobblestone blocks were done earlier this month. I do have a purple one made to replace that one reading blue.

The 16 patches were leftover from previous years so didn't need an addition.

The stars and nines were completed for last week. I put the last 4 stars back in the block bin for another time as I had enough of these blocks in the collection.

I still have the Sweet confetti blocks to make with these purples on Saturday.

Linking up on Saturday morning with the RSC. I wonder what the coin flip results will be for September..... Red or Yellow?

Kids are off to Grandma's Saturday since Emily has a riding lesson Sunday.

The first week of virtual school is done. They did ok with it. I'm actually glad they were home - Emily had a headache Friday late morning and I'm thinking it was a migraine? Blurry vision and a painful head, threw up a little after noon, slept for an hour or two and was better. If she was at school and that happened.... she would be home for 10 days and her brother would be home for 14 days.... and no clue what they would have done with the classes and teachers? I'm sure a doctor visit would have been necessary as well. The new reality I guess. But.... as we are home - all teams virtual lessons are recorded so she can watch and catch up on Sunday. An advantage to virtual learning! Trying to find the positive in this new world.

Thursday....

I do need to log into work and make up some time today... about 3 hours which I had planned to do from 9-12. 10:30 now and I still have not logged on! Sigh. I think I'll do an early lunch and work 12-3 while the kids are online at school.

I did get a walk in, cleaned the pool filter and checked in on the chickens this morning so all is not lost. Emily also wanted a Dutch Baby pancake this morning so I popped that in the oven right before I headed out for my walk. She was a happy camper with her breakfast.

I quickly cut out these parts before the Tampa/Boston hockey game last night. I need to cut out the rest of the white parts so I can make progress on this block tonight. I might cut more colors too and switch things up a bit... this one is a bit darker than the others.... although it will be fine in the scrappy quilt I'm sure!

These are the 6 completed ones so far. I might have the patience to try and fix the 3 with puckers this week. We will see. I am having fun making these so who know's how big it will become. Each block is 12 inches finished.

Guess I should prep a bit in the sewing area before I log onto work. I have plenty of purple projects that need stitching before Saturday!
