Another finish! 16 patches

 I finished the binding on the 16 patch baby quilt on Sunday. This one is 32x40 and will be donated to charity with the stars and nines. This one is similar to the last one but no stars!  The chickens would not pose so I put some treats down for them for a photo op. Poppy was missing from the photo but this has the 4 Sexlink (Rhode Island Red/White cross), 3 Plymouth Rocks and 1 Easter Egger - Rosie.

I had my first in person girl scout meeting last night at my house. It had been over a year since we have seen them all in person! They sure do change a lot in a year. We met outside on the side lawn and they all visited the chickens in the back yard.  Now I can relax a bit until next Monday...and make phone calls and schedule the Roller Skating and Painting with a Twist that was put on hold last year. I'm not ready for the camping yet.... maybe this fall.

I had some catching up to do this week.

8 of the Stashbuster blocks set as 4's into a 12 inch block were added to their collection.

The cobblestone blocks were done earlier this month. I do have a purple one made to replace that one reading blue.

The 16 patches were leftover from previous years so didn't need an addition.

The stars and nines were completed for last week. I put the last 4 stars back in the block bin for another time as I had enough of these blocks in the collection.

I still have the Sweet confetti blocks to make with these purples on Saturday.

Kids are off to Grandma's Saturday since Emily has a riding lesson Sunday.

The first week of virtual school is done. They did ok with it. I'm actually glad they were home - Emily had a headache Friday late morning and I'm thinking it was a migraine? Blurry vision and a painful head, threw up a little after noon, slept for an hour or two and was better. If she was at school and that happened.... she would be home for 10 days and her brother would be home for 14 days.... and no clue what they would have done with the classes and teachers? I'm sure a doctor visit would have been necessary as well. The new reality I guess. But.... as we are home - all teams virtual lessons are recorded so she can watch and catch up on Sunday. An advantage to virtual learning! Trying to find the positive in this new world.  

RSC in pink......

It is June (how did that happen?). Mid way through the year so this month the blocks get set with their siblings for display to see how things are coming along.

First we have the 16 patches using 2.5 inch blocks. There seems to have been a couple purple and a white leftover from last year! I'm making two of these per month. I have no clue how these will land in a quilt..... but they are very versatile so I'm sure I will come up with something.

The cobblestone blocks - I put a yardstick in for a visual to see how big these are! I am using 2 inch strips to make 14 of these guys and making a row of each color. Right now, I am thinking there will be a strip of grey in between each one. We will see what happens to them in November! Someone might have 'claimed' this so it might need to be longer. 😲 (Ok, I'm playing with some new options in blogger. Everything seems visual now and is similar to my phone for the icons so I have been able to figure it out..... so far!)

RSC Saturday in Green

Only a few scraps of bright greens remain!

I was able to add a 12 inch crumb block to the very old pile I have sitting around. For some reason there were no green blocks! I added 4 - 6.5 inch blocks in bright greens and then sewed them together to add to the little pile.

 

I also pulled some lighter greens and added another 16 patch this month. I seemed to have a couple of purple ones hanging around as well.

Over at Stashbusters 2020 the block uses 2 inch strips and 3.5 inch squares to bust your stash with the square dance block. This one 'acts' like a log cabin for settings. I was able to pull a few greens to make one so far this month. I am adding darker greens to get the look of light/dark that I want for these blocks. It's green... and they were in the scrap bins!

Yet another challenge - a nine patch a day that I wrote about here over on Facebook. That will work into a couple of projects I have plans for this year. The first one - with the RSC is adding some friendship stars in months other than purple and red (I seem to have 12 of these already) and adding a fun scrappy nine patch to go with them! I see a 12 inch block made up of 2 nines and 2 stars. That should make a fun and colorful quilt by the end of the year. These are using 2.5 inch squares.

The green and cream log cabin got quilted on the domestic machine - I tried a baptist fan freehand. The machine had some tension issues so it was a struggle but..... I think I realized I can do free motion on smaller projects again! I don't seem to have enough brights for a binding... I am in the do I go buy some or do I search the stash and go with something I have.... either a dark tan or dark greens? Still thinking on that one.... This one finishes at 36x48. Trimmed up and ready for a decision. I've been wanting to try this quilting of baptist fans for a few years... love how it turned out.
