Bonnie Hunter Mysteries?

When I was doing a little searching in the sewing room this month, I might have come across 2 started mysteries. My computer that had the directions saved off died, so a little sleuthing and I determined that each was a digital pattern available at Quiltville shop! I got both patterns and now just need to start plugging away at them.

Neither project was added to my UFO list this quarter. I doubt either would get finished this quarter anyway!

On Ringo Lake was from 2017 and Grassy Creek was 2020.

It looks like I got to step 2 of On Ringo Lake. I love the colors in this one - peachy orangey coral, teal and brown with neutrals.

I got to step 4 or 5 on Grassy Creek.! I know I have seen these baggies somewhere in my sewing room recently.

These were my colors from the pull (or shopping pull!) I know I have been using some of them so I might need to restock. Good thing it is a scrappy quilt! I swapped her grey for blue on this one.

The girl has been home sick Wednesday through today with a terrible head cold. Let's just say - about 4-5 boxes of kleenex have been used already. She is a little better today but still coughing and blowing so she stayed home and I got her a Dr. appointment this afternoon to get her note to go back to school next week. If they are out 3 days in a row, a parent note is not sufficient, so we need to pay that Dr. co-pay and get a note! Greg will have to take her as I need to go pick up the boy from school.

Greg has been getting dizzy still in the afternoons so hopefully he will be ok to take her. The Dr is about 5 minutes away from our house, vs the 20 minute drive to the school for pick up. 

Unfortunately, I have a feeling she has shared her germs with us. I'll have to clorox the house down each day this weekend.

*** Update on Emily. Greg took her to the Dr's. It is not Flu (she had her shot a few weeks ago) and it is not COVID. Just one of the many viruses going around. We got the needed Dr note to get her back into school on Monday with an excused absence. I picked up the boy....who sneezed and blew his nose on the way home. Seems everyone at school is sick! Welcome to winter a wee bit early. I guess those 2 years of home and masking got everyone's immunity down a bit this year. 

Monday....

 After way too much food yesterday and lots of fun games played, it is back to a 'normal' work week for me. Well, not quiet normal as I'll have Friday off for Christmas! 

I did get into the sewing room yesterday for a little bit and managed to cut out a little for Clue #4 and figured I'd start with one set to see how it looked.... after sewing  a bit I pulled up the photo on the compter for the clue and Oops! I sewed to the wrong sides! At least I noticed after only doing a few wrong and not all of them. I kinda like the placement of the colors on the oops... it could make a really fun building block in the future =)

Maybe I'll get a little sewing in later today.... after I go out and take a look at the Christmas start a bit after sundown tonight... and our Zoom gift exchange on girl scouts. 

Grassy Creek - clue #4 released today!

 I am ready! I managed to finish sewing clue #3 yesterday and ironing and trimming up clue #2 as well. That's 3 weeks in a row.... all caught up. Think I can make it 4? I might have had a repeat this Thursday of having a Peanut cat draped over the sewing machine sleeping for a time while I was sewing. He kept switching between the extra batting I had put on the cutting mat and draping himself on the sewing machine.  I wonder what colors we get to play with in clue #4?

Sunday evening...

 It has been a busy day and I am about ready to settle in with a little stitching tonight and relaxing. Hubby has gone to fetch the kiddo's from his Mom's so I have another 1-2 hours of peace and quiet.

Lots of running around today - dropping card making supplies to all the girls in my troop for our card making Zoom meeting tomorrow night. I also had to pick up the girl scout cookie packet for the troop today. Cookie sales will start for us January 2. We will see how it all goes this year.

I hit up the local grocery store where they have the standing rib roasts on sale this week and I just pulled it out of the oven. Yes, it appears no one but me likes it so I get it all to myself! I cut slices then seal a meal and pop them in the zero degree freezer to pull out when I want some for lunch options.

I did get a little cutting and sewing in on Clue #3 finally late afternoon. It is a start anyway. The silly cat pulled the draping himself over the sewing machine so I decided I'd better turn it off and pay some attention to him. I'll settle in with some hand quilting where he can settle in on my lap and purr and nap like a spoiled boy that he is! This is block 8, so I'll have one more to go after this and then all the sashing and cornerstones.

The chickens were all in their coop so they got their door closed for the night. It is dark now, so I'll pop out to watch for meteors tonight as well. I hear there will be a lot so if you have a chance, look outside.

Grassy Creek Mystery... clue #3

 Would you believe I am actually done clue #1+2 and ready for clue 3? Yup, me either!  This is most of the parts and pieces for the first 2 clues. I 'might' have a little pressing and trimming for a few of clue 2 left to do but that should not take long. You can find the Grassy Creek Mystery Clues here.

So... while I was working away on finishing up clue #2 yesterday.... Peanut decided to do this!

Notice the machine is off. I had done a little sewing, then press and trim and cut some more for sewing so I had turned it off. Yes, I think he was sleeping this way at some point!

When I went back to sewing .... I was wondering what he would do. 

He opted to get 'more comfortable?'. The little bugger stayed this way for over 30 minutes while I was sewing away.  When I finally got him to move.... he did this!

Last night a rocket went off. Yes, we watched the one from SpaceX a few days ago that lifted off, did the turn, then landed a little fast with a big boom! It was a teaching moment with the boy to see how Elon Musk handled that explosion... which was in a very positive light. Trying to instill if you look at the positive, things go much smoother in life rather than finding the negative. The rocket last night was visible for almost 5 minutes outside our house on the other coast of Florida from where it went off. It is that spec of light over the tree towards the middle of the screen. It went across the sky! With a boy who is very into airplanes, flights and space and rockets.... let's just say I know about and get to watch all the launches from around the world!

Monday!

 I did spend time in the sewing room yesterday and instead of picking up I sewed!

All the millions of half square triangles for clue 1 of the Grassy Creek Mystery are sewn and trimmed. My 'grey' fabric is blue for a lake so mine are blue and yellow/gold.

I also sewed the stashbuster blocks together into a top. This one measures 48x60. A good snuggle size. Now to get it quilted.

Kids are dropped off to school and I need to get to work. Lets hope the attitude from the boy improves because he needed an attitude adjustment really bad this morning. His sister was all set to go 15 minutes early and just waited for him... who was 5-10 minutes late! Back to the grind after a week off.

I figured since I have less 'activities' this year I might actually be able to keep up so I'm giving it a shot.    Two rooms got rearranged yesterday.... which means I believe I need to move things to find my way into the sewing room and clear off the table so I can start the mystery today. Yes, the sewing area is essentially also the 'catch all' area where decorations for seasons are also stored. I might have said I'd clear out the pantry area today as well.... between those 2 things, I should be kept busy!

The next block on Book Club is in progress to being hand quilted.

After dropping the kids to school I headed to Joann's Fabrics. They might have mentioned I was a wee bit too 'happy and cheerful' this morning! Silly kids. Would you believe... this came to under $100! Not too bad. I picked up some Christmas fabrics on sale - 2 green and 1 red (1 yd ea) with some embroidery floss for the Fa La La... Yes, a wee bit late but I do have it all saved off and printed out ready to go. I have white in the stash for the middles.... although I might make it a cream instead. I think white might be too much of a contrast. 

I picked up the last package of wrap-n-zap so I can make a few of the microwave bowl cozies... since mine is always in use and dirty! Darn oatmeal tends to boil over if you don't watch it. I picked up some Guitterman threads on the buy 3 get 3 free. I was missing pink fro some reason and I tend to use blue for binding and I ran out. I figured a purple or two would fit into the open spots of missing colors pretty well. Then a couple of 4 ounces of dish cloth yarn on sale. After that was all picked up it was time to search for the Quiltville mystery fabrics for Grassy Creek. I know I don't have much in my stash in the way of maroon, orange and gold yellow so picked up some half yards of that and one remnant. I opted for 5 yards of a deep lake blue for the main color and I have whites in the stash from an earlier splurge this year. There was a grassy green purchased as well but it must be hiding under one of the other fabrics. I know I have more of those in the stash with other shades of green. It should get me started for next week. I think I'll have the kids dump out the ahem.... cough, cough, 3 big rubbermaid bins of scraps (we won't include the various baskets and buckets of other scraps in the mix) and have them sort them into colors if they should get bored at all over the next week off school! 

A quick trip to Aldi as I am finally feeling like eating again after 19 days and needed some veggies for the crisper. Hubby is picking up a frozen turkey today after work and some cuban bread and sliced ham.... I pulled pork carnitas from the freezer this morning and have dill pickles, swiss cheese and mustard for our cuban sandwiches tonight for dinner. I am working on making a batch of cuban black beans to go with it as well.  I love the black beans from Chili's and eventually I will figure out how to make them taste like that or better! Tomorrow night will be Emily's favorite - roasted italian sausage, zucchini, mushrooms, onion, and peppers with penne pasta. See, I really did need to get veggies =). She dislikes the tomato so we tend to leave that out of the recipe I linked to. 

1PM.... Think I'll grab my endless diamond pieces and a cup of water and go let the ladies out of the coop for some free range time. I wonder if there will be 1 egg or 2 when I check? We have had one per day since Friday from Lily we think. She has the red waddle. Emma or Fred or Molly might start laying in the next week we think.
